EOT Feasibility

Can I implement an EOT
for my business?

Answer a few quick questions to find out if an Employee Ownership Trust could work for your business. Takes about 3 minutes.

Step 1 of 6

Your business

Tell us a bit about the company โ€” just the shape of it.

Step 2 of 6

Seller Note

In most EOTs, the owner is paid over time through a seller note โ€” the trust pays you from company profits rather than a lump sum at closing. This keeps the business financially healthy through the transition.

Are you open to that?

Step 3 of 6

External Debt

Some EOTs use bank financing or other external debt to fund part of the transaction. This puts debt on the company's balance sheet but can reduce how much is financed through a seller note.

Are you comfortable with external debt to help finance the transition to employee ownership?

Step 4 of 6

Step 5 of 6

Real estate & assets

An EOT covers the operating business โ€” not real estate or other major assets. If your company holds real estate, that would typically need to be separated into a different entity.

Is that something you can work with?

Step 6 of 6

Leadership & governance

EOTs work best with a leadership team that can share in running the business. The owner often stays involved, but the trust structure benefits from distributed governance.

Do you have leaders in place โ€” or in development โ€” who could step into that kind of role?
